Music in Uppland is seeking a highly qualified violinist for the Uppsala Chamber Soloists and concertmaster for the Uppsala Chamber Orchestra.

Music in Uppland hereby announces the position as a violinist in the Uppsala Chamber Soloists and concertmaster in the Uppsala Chamber Orchestra – a unique position where you get to combine orchestral playing with being a chamber musician.

Uppsala Chamber Soloists

The Uppsala Chamber Soloists is regarded as one of Sweden’s foremost chamber ensembles, and their repertoire spans from baroque to contemporary music. In the ensemble, you share the artistic responsibility for programming and selecting invited guest artists. Furthermore, the violinists in the ensemble alternate between violin I, violin II, and viola II.

The Uppsala Chamber Soloists have a subscription series at the Uppsala Concert & Congress Hall and engage in annual touring activities throughout the Uppland region as well as other parts of the country. Occasionally, international tours are also conducted. Music for young audiences and music in healthcare are important parts of the organization’s activities.

Uppsala Chamber Orchestra

The Uppsala Chamber Orchestra is the professional orchestra of the county, recognized as one of the leading orchestras of its size in Sweden. In the orchestra, you will be one of three concertmasters, also alternating as the leader of the second violins. The Uppsala Chamber Soloists form the core of the Uppsala Chamber Orchestra’s string section. The orchestra has a subscription series and family concerts at the Uppsala Concert & Congress Hall.

Scope: Full-time. Approximately 75% Uppsala Chamber Soloists and 25% Uppsala Chamber Orchestra. Some flexibility in working hours and scheduling.

Employment: Permanent position with a probationary period.

Starting date to be agreed upon.

Audition: November 29-30 at the Uppsala Concert & Congress Hall. The audition will be followed by a trial period.

Audition

Invitations to audition will be sent via email no later than October 17, along with information about the ensemble audition. Music in Uppland will provide a pianist.

The audition consists of two parts:

1. Free choice from Bach’s sonatas and partitas for solo violin, approximately 15 minutes. Contrasting work with piano, preferably late Romantic or 20th-century, approximately 15 minutes.

– from Symphony No. 1 by Brahms

2. Ensemble audition and interview

Please indicate in your application the work and movement you wish to perform with the pianist.
