Since 1986 The Linné Quintet has been a dynamic force in Swedish music. From the outset the ensemble has made a point of revitalising the repertoire for brass quintet. This has, among other things, resulted in the first performance of around forty works by composers such as Mats Larsson Gothe, Karin Rehnqvist, Rolf Martinsson, Marie Samuelsson and Jonas Forssell, all of whom have written specially for the quintet.
In exploring the wealth of sacred music which abounds, the ensemble has worked extensively with church choirs, especially at Christmas, when the quintet has a full programme year after year. Their CD “Till Betlehem mitt hjärta”, which includes some lesser-known Swedish Christmas music, has encouraged many choirs to work with professional musicians.
In its role as a regional ensemble under the aegis of Musik i Uppland the quintet plays on ceremonial occasions in Uppsala Cathedral as well as at university ceremonies and other public functions. School concerts, master-classes and collaboration with music schools are other important components in their work. In addition, the quintet also forms the basis of the brass section of the Uppsala Chamber Orchestra.
The Linné Quintet has worked with many outstanding performers, including Christian Lindberg, trombone, Oystein Baadsvik, tuba, Bengt Hallberg, piano, Erica Goodman, harp, Marie Källman’s Dance Company, Pierre Torwald, barock trumpet and Sören Hermansson and Ib Lanzky-Otto, French horn.
The Linné Quintet has toured in Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland, Finland, Norway and the Czech Republic.
